Moebius/Panzer Dragoon Parallels

XBN Issue 006.Feb 2003
XBN: How did the renowned French artist Moebius fit into the Panzer Dragoon creative process?

Iwade: Back then the team members were big fans of Moebius, and what actually happened is that Sega developed all of the game's enemies and bosses, and sent them to Moebius, who had been commissioned to do some illustrative art. He interpreted the designs and the results became the cover art for the Japanese release.

Yoshida: As we were such big fans of Moebius, we were surprised with the results because they were not as abstract as we expected. It was very in keeping with the game.

Arzach
Panzer Dragoon
Moebius' Arzach is very similar to the Panzer Dragoon dragon riders. They both ride a strange flying creature and fly through strange alien worlds. You can even say they both use weapons while atop their trusty companions. In the graphic novel called Mobius Arzach, Arzach is even illustrated riding his pterodactyl with two spear-like weapons. The Legend of Arzach
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Arzach's stone pterodactyl is very similar to Panzer Dragoon's pure type monsters. Each having similar bone-like skin or armor. In Moebius' Legend of Arzach comic, a group of people called Charadines, resembling Panzer Dragoon Saga's Seekers or Caravan, construct or give life to stone pterodactyls. The insides of the pterodactyls look machine-like. This further parallels the machine-like pure types of the Panzer Dragoon Series. Click the left pic to enlarge.

Ballade
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Moebius' Ballade a short comic that appeared in Heavy Metal Magazine, shows a strange creature very similar to Panzer Dragoon's Coolias.

Arzach
Panzer Dragoon Saga
One of Moebius' Arzach artworks shows Arzach possibly fighting a mysterious woman riding atop a similar pterodactyl. This is reminiscent of the battle between Edge and Azel over Uru in Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Moebius /Jodorowsky's Incal
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Moebius/Jodorowsky's Incal also has amazing towers that most definitely resemble the Tower from Panzer Dragoon Saga. Click the left pic to enlarge.

Prince Charming
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Another one of Moebius' short comics called Prince Charming reveals an alien environment full of various plants and vegetation. One such plant is very similar to the Kuo plant found in the Garil Desert in Panzer Dragoon Saga. Click the left pic to enlarge.

Harzak
Panzer Dragoon Saga
The second of Moebius' Arzach comics called Harzak, shows an ancient arch, much like the archs from Panzer Dragoon's Episode 1 and Panzer Dragoon Saga's Garil Desert.

Arzach
Panzer Dragoon Saga

Moebius /Jodorowsky's Before the Incal
Panzer Dragoon Saga
A giant tower spewing swarms of flying creatures, can be found in Moebius/Jodorowsky's Before the Incal . If this wasn't inspiration for Team Andromeda's Panzer Dragoon Saga, I don't know what is. Click the left pic to enlarge.

Arzach
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Another Arzach artwork shows Arzach flying across a strange landscape where two moons can be seen in the distance. The Panzer Dragoon world also has two moons.

Moebius /Jodorowsky's Before the Incal
Panzer Dragoon Orta
